Inside Job is an upcoming adult Netflix series that will be released on October 22. The show is created by Gravity Falls writer Shion Takeuchi (with Alex Hirsch being an executive producer). The animation is done by Jam Filled Entertainment, whose works include The Loud House, The Casagrandes, Final Space, and season 1 of the 2019 DC Superhero Girls.

It looks Hotel Transylvania 4 will skip theaters and be streaming… on Amazon Prime Video. Well that’s a change of pace from the other 3 Sony movies yhis year, The Mitchells Vs The Machines, Wish Dragon, and Vivo, which all came out on Netflix.

Throughout 2018-2019, it was announced that various Disney creators and staff members had signed development deals to make content for the company. Two notable people who made this deal are Craig Gerber (creator of Sofia The First and Elena Of Avalor) and Travis Braun (the creator of TOTS and Pupstruction). One thing I wonder if if part of the deal means you’ll get at least 50 episodes and 2 seasons right off the bat. Let me explain. Last week, when Pupstruction was announced, Travis Braun said how he was given a great deal of trust by Disney to make 50 half hour episodes. Last month, when Craig Gerber talked about how production was going well for his upcoming show, he said that he’s putting the finish polish for episode 50. I’m guessing this will apply to any future shows from these specific creators.

The recently released Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle Of The Realms had an opening variant of Shaggy grabbing Scorpion, and glowing a bright green almost like he’s a god. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge had a similar gag of Scorpion grabbing Daffy when he acts loony.
Besides the above, this is in reference to Scooby Doo: Legend Of The Phantosaur, where he beat up a bunch of bikers while he was hypnotized, and someone made a meme of it by adding Dragon Ball Z music to make it seem like he’s a god there.

The whole “Shaggy is a god” thing has been a joke going around on the internet for a while now. I guess that Warner Bros. must’ve figured that they might as well make a DTV or something addressing this joke. Sure, Shag is hypnotized here, but it’s basically an excuse to show Shaggy kicking arse and taking names.

The Ghost And Molly McGee was renewed for season 2. As for the rest of the voice cast, we have Jordan Klepper as the voice of Pete, Molly’s anxiously idealistic father, Sumalee Montano as the voice of Sharon and Grandma Nin, Molly’s creatively pragmatic mother and adoring grandmother, and Michaela Dietz as the voice of Darryl, Molly’s mischievously entrepreneurial brother.
Kelsey Grammer, Natasha Rothwell, Greta Gerwig, Yvette Nicole Brown and Jane Lynch are among the names to guest in season one.

Here’s some interesting information on pages 48-49 of this online magazine. Much like with Phineas And Ferb, series creators Bill Motz & Bob Roth spent 14 years trying to pitch the concept of The Ghost And Molly McGee. At one point, they pitched the series to Nickelodeon, but they declined it. This was back when they were working on The Penguins Of Madagascar. This wouldn’t be the only time Nickelodeon rejected a series and then it ended up produced by another network. This show, Phineas And Ferb, and The Proud Family were all pitched to Nickelodeon at some point before being accepted by Disney Channel. The original Adventure Time pilot was produced for Nickelodeon, but the actual show went to Cartoon Network. The Mighty Ones was also pitched to Nickelodeon in 2013 before it was picked up DreamWorks in 2016 and then came out on Hulu and Peacock in 2020.

A few months ago, Maxwell Atoms said he was working on a Billy And Mandy movie. Well, the project is no more. The project has been canned for now. He said that Cartoon Network declined on this since the kids of today wouldn’t know what the show is due to it not currently airing.

Having seen that clip of Tom & Jerry Time, we now know that this won’t be a kiddification the way some fans speculated that it might be back when the show was being called Tom & Jerry Junior. Also, again judging by that clip, it looks like Tom and Jerry won’t be talking in this, as someone on DeviantArt thought might have been the case. Personally, I don’t get why fans act like it would be so unthinkable to have T&J speak in a new project, as they’ve spoken in the original theatrical shorts. They were never yakking it up from start to finish, but they have spoken a line or two in some shorts, I don’t why they can’t be doing that now.

Lola sounds like one of the Chipettes. I don’t dislike the voice, but it’s quite a jump from Lola having Zendaya’s voice in Space Jam: A new Legacy to…that. If there’s one thing I’d like to see Warner do in the future, it’s land on one specific voice, personality and set of mannerisms for Lola and stick with it; everyone knows who Bugs is, everyone knows who Daffy is and everybody knows who Porky is, but Lola’s character changes from project to project.
But I digress. That clip looked like fun, and WB does seem to be trying to keep a Looney Tunes feel to the show despite it being aimed at a younger audience. We’ll have to see how that goes over.

If nothing else, some of Lola’s mannerisms in the clip seem to show that, regardless of what her role in the series will be, she isn’t afraid to get more expressive, which is a step in the right direction.

For a couple of shows designed to keep tiny tots distracted for a few minutes, those were animated quite well. That’s some of the smoothest hand drawn animation I’ve seen on TV lately. Clearly, Warner Bros. is sparing no expense for the Cartoonito shows which are based on established properties. Bugs Bunny Builders and Tom and Jerry Time both have better looking hand drawn animation that some of the adult cartoons that I’ve seen.

1. The DreamWorks Jr series Dragons: Rescue Riders is back after a year long hiatus. The most recent episode was a holiday that came out November 24, 2020 on Netflix, and new episodes return November 24, 2021. The new subtitle Heroes Of The Sky is an indicator that new episodes now come out on Peacock, much like how Archibald’s Next Big Thing became Archibald’s Next Big Thing Is Here when new episodes moved from Netflix to Peacock. Coincidentally, there was also a roughly year long hiatus.
2. Season 14 of Curious George premieres on October 21. I believe this is the first truly new season to come out on Peacock. PBS Kids stopped premiering new episodes in 2015 after season 9. Seasons 10-13 were produced between 2017-2020, but they didn’t air in the US on Peacock until July 2020, long after Canada and other countries aired the seasons. The show has a similar deal to Sesame Street in that the episodes will still air on PBS Kids, but many months after debuting on the streaming service.

Here’s what’s coming to Disney Plus in October. One thing I find surprising is how it says that The Ghost And Molly McGee will drop 5 episodes on October 6. This would mean that 3 episodes would premiere there before airing later on Disney Channel.

The website of Joanna Haussmann (which can be easily found) says that she will be the story editor for Hamster And Gretel. She’s an actor and comedian, with one of her roles being the voice of the Alien Commander (that’s her name) on Milo Murphy’s Law. The initial concept art drew criticism for looking cheap, but much like with Phineas And Ferb and Milo Murphy’s Law, the concept art looks almost nothing like the final show. That’s the case here. Someone dug up a tweet (albeit in Spanish) from 6 months where she mentions being the head writer of a Disney show with Venezuelans as the main characters. This was basically confirmed when she called out someone that recently said, based solely on this information and nothing else, that the show will be bad. She said “How do you know?”, meaning she knows about the main characters being Venezuelans. For the record, she’s also Venezuelan.

There have been 2 cases in Muppet Babies 2018 where Ms. Nanny’s head is almost seen.
1. The first is in “Goodbye Statler And Waldorf” (from early season 3), where she’s shown getting a suitcase from the closet. We see a shadow of her head, but not her actual head.
2. The second is from today’s episode, “Oh My Gourd” a Halloween episode. A scene near the end has Gonzo compliment Ms. Nanny on her costume, and we cut to her head, but she’s wearing a robot head, so we still don’t know what she looks like.
He might be joking, but according to Tom Warburton, during the first screening of the episode’s animatic, Ms. Nanny was apparently wearing The Mandalorian helmet. It was apparently put in by Jeremy Jensen (who directed the episode).
I can’t help but get some chuckles from little moments like this.

I saw the trailer for the new animated movie Ron’s Gone Wrong, and right off the bat, I’ve got a bone to pick with this film: Not only does the lead character, a kid named Barney (really?) have a girl in his class that he’s secretly crushing on (wow, never saw that before, well, not before noon!), but at home he lives with his father and grandmother. That’s right, we have yet another kid protagonist in a kid’s movie with a crush and only one parent, and the missing parent is his mother, because of course it is. Geez, you’re only about the kabillionth movie to ever do this. Why not just throw in a bully character in there as well and have the whole trifecta of tired cliches? There are other ways to evoke sympathy for the young protagonist besides making them half an orphan. This is why I watch so few of the animated features; I’m so tired of seeing the same tropes getting trotted out over and over and over again. Could someone please think outside of the freakin’ box?

Dana Terrace went to Reddit, where she went over details over the cancellation of The Owl House. Some interesting information includes
1. Every show has been affected by the pandemic, meaning the budget for every show is slashed to some degree. The Owl House is no exception. She was lucky to get the season 3 specials.
2. While there have been countries who are hesitant, or outright hate, LGBTQ content, she still received a good deal of support.
3. Ratings were solid even during the rise of streaming. She just feels that they’re incomplete. They’re not telling the full story.
4. The decision to cancel the show was made around the time of Agony Of A Witch, which is near the end of season 1.
5. The most deciding factor is with how heavily the show clashes with the Disney brand, due to skewing older and having more serialization.

A third How To Train Your Dragon series is coming to Hulu and Peacock on December 23, and is set in the present day. Unlike with the preschool oriented Rescue Riders series (which returns with new episodes on November 24), this seems to be for a slightly older audience, similar to the 2012 How To Train Your Dragon series. I liked both shows enough, so this should be interesting.

I’m not a huge fan of How to Train Your Dragon, but a Dragons series set in the present is an interesting take on the franchise. The article also mentions a little kid’s show called Dreamworks Dragons: Rescue Riders, which I’ve never heard of before today.

Dragons Rescue Riders is a preschool show due to it being marketed as a DreamWorks Jr show (one of the earliest attempts at DreamWorks breaking into preschool programming) , much like with what you’d see on Disney Junior and Nick Jr. It premiered on Netflix in September 2019, with the Netflix run ending in November 2020 before new episodes moved to Peacock (much like a lot of recent DreamWorks content). This new Dragons series is definitely not a preschool show.

I honestly don’t know what to make of this. This is a story about the kayfabe “real” Buzz Lightyear that the in universe toy line is based on. I can’t say that I’m excited for this, but I guess there’s no reason why Disney and Pixar can’t or shouldn’t do it. It’s no more shameless or cash grabby than anything else the studio has done.

What I find to be kind of funny is that these producers always insist that Tom and Jerry not talk in their cartoons, and then they surround them with other animals who do talk. Why is OK for the other animals in the T&J universe to talk but not T&J themselves?

Hasn’t it been kind of a staple for the franchise to have Tom And Jerry not talk while all other animals (or most of them) can?
Probably the interesting thing about this DVD movie (besides the fact that it’s the first Tom And Jerry DVD movie in 5 years after the 2017 Willy Wonka movie) is that it’s a cowboy movie. This would be the second cowboy movie from WB, the first being Scooby Doo Shaggy’s Showdown, which came out January 31/February 14 on digital/DVD respectively. If this movie releases in January/February, that would be another coincidence.

12 cousins? That’s 13 central characters counting the lead character. 13 is a lot of central characters to keep track of for a half hour series. How big is this family’s house that it can accommodate 12 people to stay for the summer?

The show brings to mind elements of other shows. Like, the show primarily takes place in summer, similar to shows like Phineas And Ferb or Gravity Falls. Likewise, the focus on a large family (though we only know about the lead character and her cousins so far) brings to mind 101 Dalmatians or The Loud House/The Casagrandes.

The 12 cousins thing conjures up the inevitable comparisons to The Loud House. Also, I wonder what them moving in “for the summer” entails; either this series is set perpetually during the summer like Phineas and Ferb or it’s another of those “this is a finite story with a predetermined beginning, middle and end” show like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Gravity Falls. I kind of hope its’ the former because everybody’s doing the latter now, that’s getting kind of old, for me at least.

I would assume the show will take the Big City Greens approach in having some continuity or overarching elements, but would still be primarily episodic. I mean, you don’t need a lot of context to watch an episode of Big City Greens (outside of a few, usually the mid season specials), and it’s gone on to be the most well treated Disney show since Phineas And Ferb.

Some recent information came out that made me think quite a few things.
In a somewhat surprising move, it looks like all of Fancy Nancy season 3 will be coming out on Disney Plus on Friday November 12, the day the season premieres on television. Not only that, it looks like the season will have 13 episodes, unlike seasons 1-2 having 25 episodes. Now a few thoughts come from this:
1. If all of season 3 will be put on Disney Plus on November 12, will all of season 3 also be on the Disney Now app that same day? Recall how 5 episodes of The Ghost And Molly McGee were put on both Disney Plus and Disney Now on October 6, with 3 of those episodes premiering on both before television. This also brings to mind how all of season 3 of The Lion Guard was put on Disney Now in 2 batches of episodes in August and September 2019 before airing on television that same fall.
2. One might think that the season might have been shortened because of the pandemic. That does sound plausible, but I think it’s a bit more complicated than that. Season 3 was first announced on September 18, 2019, which was 2 weeks before season 2 premiered. The season was most likely being written when this happened. According to Krista Tucker’s LinkedIn profile, production for the show started in October 2016 and ended in June 2020. Plus, this wouldn’t be the only Disney Junior show to have a significantly shortened final season. Season 3 of The Lion Guard had about 20 episodes, unlike seasons 1-2 having 25-30 episodes. Similarly, season 5 of Doc McStuffins had 15 episodes instead of 25-30, with the series finale being the only episode to air after the pandemic was underway.
3. It seems like it might have been Disney’s plan to hold back the episodes and then release the season in 1 go. A lot of the people working on the show moved onto other projects, some of which already aired. For example, writer Matt Hoverman is now story editor for Firebuds. Storyboard artists Aldina Dias, Holly Forsyth, and Hank Tucker have moved onto Mickey Mouse Funhouse (the former making her directorial debut). Chris Otsuki worked as a storyboard artist on Muppet Babies for about 3 months before he moved back to Disney Television Animation to work on Alice’s Wonderland Bakery, also shown on his LinkedIn profile. He storyboarded the episode “Moon Muffins”, which aired on tv last month.

Coming in 2023 is a new Disney show called Hailey’s On It. It’s created by Devin Bunje & Nick Stanton (they created Gamer’s Guide To Pretty Much Everything, and wrote for shows like The Replacements, Phineas And Ferb, and Turbo Fast). The show stars Auli’i Cravalho as the title character, Hailey, along with Manny Jacinto as Scott, Hailey’s best friend, and Gary Anthony Williams as Beta, an artificially intelligent operating system from the future.
The show follows Hailey Banks, a risk-averse but resourceful teenager on a mission to complete every item on her long list of challenging (and sometimes impractical) tasks in order to save the world. Hailey will be pushed outside her comfort zone to discover the greatness within as she systematically conquers her fears, whether she is winning a sand-building competition, wrestling a honey badger, eating a raw onion, or facing her ever-growing and complicated feelings toward her best friend, Scott.
Howy Parkins (Disney Junior’s The Lion Guard) is co-executive producer and supervising director, Wade Wisinski (The Owl House) is producer, Karen Graci (Tuca & Bertie) is story editor and Lee Ann Dufour (The Breadwinner) is art director.

While it is a coincidence, there’s something interesting about the Elena Of Avalor episode “The Last Laugh”, which aired on November 22, 2019. It involves a visit from Naomi’s childhood friend Veronica, who became a sailor. She’s voiced by Auliʻi Cravalho, who’s of course best known for voicing Moana in the Disney film of the same name. This would be the second time she voiced someone associated with the sea. Another kicker is that the episode came out on her 19th birthday while Veronica celebrates her 18th birthday in that episode. For one more coincidence, November 22 is just 1 day before the release of Moana, which was November 23, 2016.

Meaning that now, other studios are able to produce their own adaptations of the characters and stories, since both Bambi and Pooh are based on books that were written several decades ago, just as long as said adaptations are legally distinct from Disney’s interpretations. For example, a studio could make their version of Winnie the Pooh, but they can’t give Pooh a red T-shirt, because that was something that Disney added.
It’s the same deal with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The original Grimm Brothers fairy tale is in the public domain. The 1938 Disney movie, however, is not. Therefore, another studio could make their own version of Snow White, just as long as the Seven Dwarfs in their version aren’t named Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy and Sneezy, because it was Disney who came up with those names and personalities. In the original Grimm fairy tale, the Dwarfs were nameless.

This article recently said that, among other things, Batman: Caped Crusader season 1 will have 10 episodes. This makes me wonder if My Adventures With Superman will have both of its seasons be 10 episodes also. Recall how the initial article announcing the series it would get a 2 season pickup, but the never said how long they were.

So we have some trailers.
1. The Cuphead Show was announced a few years ago, and is now set to come out February 18. I know basically nothing about the games the show is based on other than that it involves the devil and old school animation.
2. Also on February 18 is a winter themed special for The Wonderful World Of Mickey Mouse. It was announced about 2 months ago that there would be 4 specials themed around specific seasons, and this is one of them.

Cartoon Network is really going all out for Craig Of The Creek when the 5 year anniversary comes next year. We’re getting season 5, a prequel movie, and the Cartoonito spinoff Jessica’s Big Little World is coming then.

So we finally get some new info about Jessica’s Big Little World. It’s good to know that the project hasn’t been abandoned, but it won’t debut until 2023? Next year? Really? I know that animation takes time, but since the series was announced last year, you’d think that CN would have a few episodes ready to air by now. I’m guessing that production on the series was likely delayed due to COVID. This leads me to wonder if the other WB produced Cartoonito shows Bugs Bunny Builders, Batwheels and Tom and Jerry Time that were also announced last year will still debut this year or be delayed until sometime next year.
On the one hand, it’s good to know that Craig of the Creek is doing well enough for Cartoon Network to want to produce a spinoff, but on the other hand, I’m not psyched about a series focusing on Jessica. As a supporting character, Jessica is fine. She works as Craig’s little sister, but I don’t think that Jessica has a deep or compelling enough personality to carry a series on her own. Then again, this is a show that’s intended for preschoolers, so it’s not like the plots need to be river deep or all that complex.

Season 3 of Big City Greens officially premieres on Saturday February 12 (not counting the Halloween special that came out in October, which was the only completed episode at the time). The show is also getting a season 4 and a movie.

That’s good news. I’m not all that into Big City Greens personally (I gave it a shot, but it’s just not my jam) but I have mad respect for it; BCG is one of the few current Disney Channel cartoons (aside from the preschool shows) that isn’t afraid to just be a fun comedy.

I think it’s safe to say that AT&T’s attempt to expand itself to being an entertainment company failed miserably, though not through lack of trying. Anyone remember the Audience Network?
It’s probably for the best. We’ve had DirecTV since 2004 and the service definitely got worse after AT&T purchased the company in 2015. I’ve never had AT&T as a phone service, but if how they handled home entertainment is any indication, that’s not a good sign. Ironically, our household is currently considering switching to an internet TV service because DirecTV’s rates have gone through the roof.
Also, let’s savor the irony of the President of of AT&T who was in charge of the bungled attempt being named “Stankey”.

A new Looney Tunes DVD movie is coming out later this year called King Tweety. It’s the first Looney Tunes DVD movie since the 2015 movie “Looney Tunes: Rabbits Run”.

People are already complaining about the art style. This is why we can’t have nice things.
What stuck out to me was how Sylvester didn’t try to devour Tweety once in the trailer (though he did try to snack on some other birds) and how Tweety referred to Sylvester as his brother, which is interesting, as in many cases domestic animals raised together in the same household tend to view one another as siblings or fellow tribesmen, this is often the case with cats and dogs anyway.
