Hey, the first Twinsanity entry of 2015. Cool. Anyway, this 2 Funny segment is a sketch from the Canadian comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall. It’s a song number performed by blues musician Mississippi Gary (Mark McKinney). I know that this whole thing is one big joke, but the song itself is actually pretty darn catchy. I still hum it to myself from time to time. Here’s “Smokin’ On the Night Train”.

Nerdvana: Wild Cartoon Kingdom
Today I’m going to talk about one animated setting that I’ve been geeking out about lately: The wild. The savage untamed world of the jungle and of pre-history.
The Savage Land – Come in and get eaten.
Before I begin, I’d like to make it clear that I definitely am not talking about The Flintstones. Don’t get me wrong; I know that The Flintstones is a pop culture icon and I understand the show’s influence and it’s impact on the world of modern animation, but the fact of the matter is that The Flintstones barely took advantage of the fact that it took place during the Stone Age. I get that The Flintstones was basically The Honeymooners in animated form and I’m OK with the occasional anachronism , but my feeling is that if you’re going to modernize things that much, you might as well set your series in the Present Day. Despite the prehistoric setting, The Flintstones was about as savage as a Tupperware party and therefore the series doesn’t fit my description of a “wild cartoon kingdom”. Having said that, beyond this crop of sentences, I won’t be discussing The Flintstones here at all.

See ya, Fredso!

“Howdy-Hoo, Kideroos!”

2 Funny: I Like Cheese by Loiter Squad
I give you the band/comedy troupe Loiter Squad with a unique take on a well known dairy product. Personally, I’ve always been partial to bacon, myself. Anyway, here’s “I Like Cheese”.
2 Funny: SNL – I Wish It Was Christmas Today
On this 2 Funny, we look back at a holiday classic number. I’m sure we’ve all seen this bit, as it’s been done many times on the show. I haven’t watched NBC’s Saturday Night Live much in the past few years (OK, I haven’t been watching it at all), but this bit still makes me chuckle.Kudos to Horatio Sanz, Jimmy Fallon, Chris Kattan and Tracy Morgan for performing their parts well. Recently, some Acura car commercial is attempting to have a millenial hipster version of the song, but I say forget that! Sometimes campy and comical is the only way to go. Here’s “I Wish It was Christmas Today”.
Nerdvana: Prelude to Eden
This is one of my favorite animated short films. Don’t anyone tell me that 2D animation is dead. Not only does this short look absolutely amazing, but it’s highly imaginative. I don’t know what those little creatures are supposed to be, but I want one. Here’s Michael Gagne’s “Prelude to Eden”. Enjoy:
